We are all on the run; the highway of life
Some navigating to the bypass of “nothingness”
Some are stuck in the junction
While a few did made it home
One runner said “look here for a moment”
Mother “I made it”, yay “I nailed it”
…And it was worth it but I’ve seen terrible things
Many things trouble me but these few give me more concern

The beautiful thing about life is that we can share our entire life with the love of our life. Relationship often goes in cycle and needs to be balanced to have continuity. What and who is most important person in our life will drive the need to have a relationship in the first place. As all relationship, for it to work, we must be working at it constantly. Not on valentine day, anniversary day, desperate days, good or bad days but every day. No matter how great a relationship is every relationship always has an area of improvement. I once heard the parrots in a neighbor’s main lobby whisper that legacy is for the blind. I tried to reason like I always do with species beneath human best intelligence. But then, I was so furious I want to get into the discussion and have a debate like one of them “fellas”.
The unthoughtful may choose to forget, the careless care less anyways, the hardened may block reasoning, or newbies become blind to the sacrifices of past heroes but history will never forget those who fought hard for what we all enjoy even if taken for granted. “Life is beautiful”…. Yea right! You got $1million in trust fund bequeath you, a nice country house and fast car to make you say that. Well, I am not about that, I’d wish I had those niceties but not in grasp. There is more to life than what flashes the eye or looks appealing to sight. Money does not buy happiness but can create what you fancy.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Recently I have noticed that what forms my reality is not what happens around me but what happens in me. Every day as I grapple with daily pecks of life’s challenges and survival, there are damning issues of life and my very tissues respond in complex altitudes. I bother sometimes, “why do I have to react that way”, “it wasn’t that bad after all”, “if only I had tried a little patience or tenderness”. The thought of marriage can be scary in this pop culture where the institution has been rightly maligned by the very parties that should have upheld the tenets of the union ‘the husband and the wife’. Marriage is not a playing ground; neither is it a testing site to practice the craft of bonding. It is Showtime and many couple falters as expectations become farther from reality day by day.
When I was younger, I told my dad that marriage is not meant for me just because I do not want to be hurt or hurt someone. But then in my culture, it is expected after school, get a job. When gainfully employed, marriage should be your next agenda. A year later everyone, even your pets are expecting your first born, and this be done at age 30.
In my little exposure and from years of counseling others, I have come to understand that marriage is not meant for everyone. And it will be good for someone to understand what is being requested of the institution and ask ‘am I cut for all these’? This piece represents the final chapter on the topic I have been ruminating these past few weeks. I have once imagined a world where our girls and children, our wife and mother, our boys and men would walk and live freely and secured in their neighborhoods without the fear or possibility of sexual violence or rape. Can we get there? Hmnnn… Yes, may be! Only if we were in Jupiter, some will say. All human vices can be tamed and control, only if there are more dis-incentives then incentives to commit those grievous crime against humanity. Where do we stand?
