Charlie Hebdo: Ready To Die For An Idea

Charlie Hebdo Newspaper Attack

A terrible start for year 2015. The world paused for a moment second week into the new year when devilish terrorists attacked France’s satirical weekly tabloid, Charlie Hebdo (French slang word for weekly) right in the heart of Paris. A city known for political tranquil and constituted freedom of expression. It would appear some are still living in the bondage of their idiotic ideology that believe it is the sleet of thunder in-substitute of rain that grows garden flowers. It was an untold turbulence and the world peace melted but for a second if at all any part of the world experience ceaseless dews of bliss.

The unfortunate incident wiped away France’s top cartoonist leaving behind their spouse widows and children orphans. For a moment it looked like ‘no place is safe’, except you live in White house or Buckingham palace. But then who knows tomorrow? There are now more than 50 million people around the world displaced by violence, the highest number at any time since World War II. All of this refugee movement is being felt along Europe’s borders.

The cartoonists were murdered in cold-blood. Yet married to the ideas that they died for under the permissiveness of rule of law as entrenched in the French highest echelon of civil allowance. Sometimes it is not the exit from the world that matters but your ideals and purposeful ideology. If the French government were to be irrational, she can veto a rule against resident eight million French Muslims as retribution for the sins of the few. In previous century, the lawful always tend to inflict the wrath of the law on the lawless without any recourse to the proceedings of a just trial. The French government knows better than to lose her ideals over the idiotic acts of some extremists.

What I have found out is that Ideals holds substance than ideas. The ideals of our very existence embraces ethics, rule of law, principles, moral code and rectitude. The ideas of the Kouachi brothers was selfish, jihad, violence, terror and fanaticism. As we were made to believe from their disdainful acts, these ideas were not ready to accommodate the ideas of others other than theirs. Why fail to reason with the civil ideals of the land? I will be rash to trash-talk the belief of my Muslim brothers, not overtly stating the faith they hold esteem is endangering but I tried to question who their teachers are or Quran spelt this landslide doom already. Not in my copy of Quran! Anyways, could be my version is different.

Ideas can be irrational, selfish, ignorant and violent but ‘ideals’ is the compass of common sense, compassion and co-habitation. Violence is never the answer, a voice of reasoning is as salient as a weapon of war. Ideas takes us deeper into extremism, ideals extends good reasoning and empathy. For anyone with the cracking passion to have others burn for their freedom of speech, a word for you – ‘If you cannot change people’s ideas, let them see your ideals’. I reasoned, instead of commenting from a glasshouse, ‘in any area of my life have I subscribed to an idea that is endangering to the simple ideals of human existence?’ A rhetoric for the ‘gods and the godless’.

One more! Any ideology that embraces violence, crime, indiscipline…. Anarchy should be crushed by the government that be. Be it religious, academic or political-based ideas. We choose not to allow the foolishness of few ruin the peace of the majority. I am not in North Korea, I deserve the right to freely express myself. If you have an issue with my opinion, employ your own media. Do not end my life when I’m undone.
