Are the happy ones aliens?
Have you ever met anyone that is all smiles every time? With constant news of war, famine, disappointment, betrayal, loss, discontentment and household or workplace bickering and backstabbing, is it still possible to be find happiness in all of these? Do happy fellows go through LIFE at all? Yes they do, and they are among us. Regardless of how rich or poor, old or young, male or female, tall or short, we all go through LIFE. Life has its ups and down. These aliens don’t look into others to be happy, they are internally wired, self-motivated, see humor in everything and keep smiley faces. They don’t take their self too serious, nether take things too serious but they are serious about their craft and can be tough when required.
Have you seen any, do you know of any, can I be one of these aliens? I call them aliens not because these happy fellows are mystic or preternatural but because they are unique people. Their philosophy of life is all things are simple and everything can be simplified. Have you met those people that when you scold them or cuss at them, they still smile back like they are not present in the context of that discussion. That makes them alien to harsher reality of such engagement. You burst their nut, they deflect and burst a laugh.
These happy fellows seek the good in every person. They don’t judge others, they don’t swerve from the point of relevance in communication and all manner of human engagements. In fact, you can gossip with them, they just smile all the way through the conversation like those gestures are the ultimate response in such chit chat. I once had a manager who was a happy fellow and I had colleagues who felt threatened by my competence, education and experience. Everyday all what they do is found out any fault or create one and present it to the manager. The message was they wanted me out or career-sullen. My manager being a happy fellow was impervious to the constant allegations and bickering. He kept faith in me and my job and we did fantastic. Sometimes being happy does not mean everything is perfect, you look beyond perfection and seek grace in all circumstances of life.
How did I take all that? Was I happy fellow? That has been my disposition, sometimes I have returned fire for fire, brimstones for brimstones, eye for eye. All those time what does it make of me? I have travelled and seen under the sun that to be happy always, you gotta peaceful with all. I am no fool and sometimes I stand up to defend myself when someone is making spurious allegations against my personality. But there is no peace as sweet as being the happy fellow. Ignore hurt, pain, betrayal, disappointment and hate. Always show love. Love conquers all. Do more often what makes you happy and peaceful. Happiness is not scarce, in fact it is always knocking on our doors, and we just gotta let in.
On my 26th birthday, in the city of London, a lady who has always tested my patience in all ramification sent me a birthday card and she wrote ‘Happy birthday Abe, but why are you so fu**ingly annoyingly NICE, have a good one’. My mantra has always be show people love regardless, a senior colleague not directly in my department, once cuffed in to some things he must have noticed I go through day in, day out. He wanted to know, sounds like he cares. He was surprised how I get through and have a positive approach in to all negativity that comes from other people. I responded ‘show people love when people hate’. Surprised, he asked why? I made him understand that ‘they won’t understand it, it confuses them…. I am a light, and come what may, I’ll keep shinning’ Darkness may have problem with it, but light silences darkness as love can silence hate. People who want you down want to see a fight from you and use the opportunity to your disadvantage. Do
Am I still a happy fellow, I hope to be. Do I have a smiley face? Probably not, I have a military man’s facial expression. May be it is by design or just the discontentment with self. Nonetheless, I will continue to push for the best in me and others, love more, contribute more, be more accommodating and patient. I will not stop on this voyage, I will strive to be the best of me, Ignore irrelevance, shine my light, and see positivity in all people and situations. Let no one come to you without feeling happier and never miss an opportunity to make other people happy. You may be the sunshine other people have been waiting for!
